Enjoying the Sun

Sunny day

It’s been a while

Since I’ve been outside

And enjoyed

The sun

A bit of warmth

On a cold winter days

A joy

A habit

That should return

To keep blues

And grays

Away

And to keep

Motivations

Flowing

To some extent

Through the season

– James Dubeau

Gazing From Coffee Shop Windows

Sitting at the coffee shop
Beside the windows
I wonder how long
Until my gaze
Across the bay
Isn’t paired with memories
Of a walk
Along the lake shore path
While figuring life out
On that summer day
Full of turmoil
Knowing what’s right
And knowing which path
My heart would be led
Watching the waves
While standing close
And the setting sun’s
Brilliant colors bared
Behind the cityscape
Blanketing us

– James Dubeau

One More Day Outside

One more day

Out on a walk

Outside

In the cold

Ten degrees

Feels like negative two

Stretch the legs

And the mind

A chance to get out

Of the granite tower

And unlock the cage

On my mind

For a chance

At freedom

– James Dubeau

Had a Thought While On My Walk

Had a thought

While out on my walk

A thought to remember

A good thought

A productive thought

One that would make

My pen flow

Across the page

But alas

By the time

I returned to my desk

The thought

Was

Gone

My pen

Could not write

All that remained

Was the memory

Of having

A thought

– James Dubeau

Last Day Outside

Today will be
The last day I’ll walk
And scribble poetry
On my daily escapes
From work’s crushing grasp
Into nature’s caress

Temps dipped below twenty
Fingers froze to the pen
Freezing lake winds
Overpower a weak sun’s rays
I cannot write outside
Not through this winter

Willpower and motivation
Must force the pen
To find warmer refuge
From winter’s chill
In those fleeting moments
When I could escape

– James Dubeau
