I’ve Paid the Money

I’ve paid the money

To host this blasted site

Made the plans

To revive my inner poet

And keep him busy

Maintaining efforts

All year long

Now

I just need to make good

On intentions

Resolutions

Starting early

With a running start

Into the New Year

To be proactive

Chasing dreams

Perchance

To live the dream

For once

– James Dubeau

Last Day Outside

Today will be
The last day I’ll walk
And scribble poetry
On my daily escapes
From work’s crushing grasp
Into nature’s caress

Temps dipped below twenty
Fingers froze to the pen
Freezing lake winds
Overpower a weak sun’s rays
I cannot write outside
Not through this winter

Willpower and motivation
Must force the pen
To find warmer refuge
From winter’s chill
In those fleeting moments
When I could escape

– James Dubeau

Down at the Crossroads

Down at the crossroads
The Devil proposed
An arduous game
To gamble your soul

How would you respond
Which choice would you make
Risk worth the reward
For a golden taste

Would you play the game
Challenging the odds
Finding any way
To triumph that day

Or

Would you call it quits
Run from the crossroads
Refusing to risk
Tormenting your soul

I’d look the Devil
Squarely in the eye
And take on the game
Knowing what’s at stake

Paradise is worth
A risky gamble
Without which, is life
Really worth living

– James Dubeau

Tiger Stripes

Tiger stripes

Across the lake

Ripples in the waves

Light stripes

On the majestic body

Reminders of

Those upon my flesh

They are beautiful expressions

Of growth

Gained strength

Victories

Over destructive pasts

– James Dubeau

Pondering Resolutions

I’ve been pondering

New Year resolutions

Changes

and goals

After looking toward the past

With 20/20 vision

Old goals seemed fitting

They will be revived

With renewed vigor

To finish making something

Out of nothing

Renewed ambitions

Carrying me forward

With creative passions

Playing out

For a better future

– James Dubeau
