One More Day Outside

One more day

Out on a walk

Outside

In the cold

Ten degrees

Feels like negative two

Stretch the legs

And the mind

A chance to get out

Of the granite tower

And unlock the cage

On my mind

For a chance

At freedom

– James Dubeau

Unable To Can

I can’t

I won’t

I don’t

Even know why

I just sit there

Unable to focus

Unable to work

Unable to complete the tasks

Laid out before me

I’m broken

Unable to can

Just floating

Through the day

Hoping to get by

Without any extra

Drain upon my soul

Diminishing the light

Further

Than

Ever

Before

– James Dubeau

Had a Thought While On My Walk

Had a thought

While out on my walk

A thought to remember

A good thought

A productive thought

One that would make

My pen flow

Across the page

But alas

By the time

I returned to my desk

The thought

Was

Gone

My pen

Could not write

All that remained

Was the memory

Of having

A thought

– James Dubeau
