One more day
Out on a walk
Outside
In the cold
Ten degrees
Feels like negative two
Stretch the legs
And the mind
A chance to get out
Of the granite tower
And unlock the cage
On my mind
For a chance
At freedom
– James Dubeau

Old thoughts
And feelings
Are flooding back
While fleshing out lives
Inhabiting the pages
Living novel lives
Dark thoughts
Bourbon
Codeine
Razorblades
That still reside
Somewhere deep
In my soul
– James Dubeau
I can’t
I won’t
I don’t
Even know why
I just sit there
Unable to focus
Unable to work
Unable to complete the tasks
Laid out before me
I’m broken
Unable to can
Just floating
Through the day
Hoping to get by
Without any extra
Drain upon my soul
Diminishing the light
Further
Than
Ever
Before
– James Dubeau
Thank you
For entering my life
Even
If it was just
For a brief
Moment
If I don’t hear
From you again
Goodbye
And thanks
For the memories
– James Dubeau
Had a thought
While out on my walk
A thought to remember
A good thought
A productive thought
One that would make
My pen flow
Across the page
But alas
By the time
I returned to my desk
The thought
Was
Gone
My pen
Could not write
All that remained
Was the memory
Of having
A thought
– James Dubeau
